Solid Waste Section March 2000
Division of Waste Management
N. C. Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources
The Solid Waste Section encourages regular and open communication
with all citizens interested in waste management. This update is part of
the Section’s effort to implement that policy. Your comments and suggestions
are welcome. Subsequent updates will be published on a quarterly basis.
All Solid Waste Section contacts noted below may be reached by telephone
at (919) 733-0692. The Section "Homepage" Internet address is: http://www.wastenotnc.org
LOCAL PLANNING
County and city managers that submitted ten-year solid waste plans in
1997 should have received two mailings describing the process to update
those plans. In addition to completing a 'Plan of Action' sheet for each
of the planning elements the FY 2005-06 waste reduction goal must be reevaluated
and a goal for FY 2009-10 established. Guidelines for the Update are included
in the final mailing. These updates are to be completed by June 30, 2000.
Remember that Solid Waste Section staffs are located in offices throughout
the state and available to assist your community with this planning process.
STATE SOLID WASTE PLAN
The Section has been gathering input from solid waste professionals and organizations across NC through forums, surveys, and e-mail as an important first step in updating the state solid waste plan. These comments and suggestions are helping determine goals and programs that can be implemented to achieve waste reduction goals. Copies of forum and survey summaries are available on the Section's Web page. In late spring a draft of the State's revised waste management plan will ready for public comment and on the Web site.
